Periodismo y Cambio Climático

The Association of Journalists in El Salvador with sponsorship from UNESCO, ended a series of talks this last weekend about, “addressing climate change from a Journalist’s viewpoint”. The event was presented by journalist Andriana Valle at the UCA San Salvador, UNASSA of Santa Ana and Andrés Bello from San Miguel. Other journalists and communication students also participated. During the event, photojournalist, Francisco Campos talked about covering flooding events where Comandos de Salvamento has helped those in areas affected by natural disasters.

FMLN Anniversary

Various Doctors and EMS crews from the main base and San Martin CDS, offered community support and first aid  during the 30th Anniversary celebration of the FMLN in San Salvador. A wooden platform gave way injuring various  political supporters. Treatments included minor surgeries and hydrating those that presented with heat exhaustion or anxiety due to the large amount of people present.

Disaster Training Begins with Children

Recently, Comandos de Salvamento taught more than 100 children and youth from the Vista Lago Elementary school basic first aid and disaster preparedness. The course is part of a larger program for vulnerability reduction within the metropolitan area of San Salvador.

During the two day course, an earthquake drill was also executed to obtain a baseline understanding of the current training of teachers and school staff. The training fills a gap for patient care since the school is in a difficult area of the city in which it is difficult for EMS ambulances to arrive in a timely fashion. Upon finishing the course, Comandos donated a basic first aid kit, a rigid backboard, and other basic EMS equipment to the children and staff. Comandos thanks good friend Devin Price, paramedic in San Diego for the backboard donation.  Fotos: CDS
