Vehicle Extrication in Apopa

CDS took part in an extrication of a patient from an MVA in Apopa, north of San Salvador. Comando Carlos Rivas worked inside the cabin delicatley cutting away metal and debris that was trapping the patients legs while EMT’s Vanessa Martinez, Julio Cesar  offered security and comfort to the anxious patient from the outside.

CDS first applied a c-collar to assure neutral position and did the best they could to place a seated backboard behind the patient in order to increase more stability of the spine. The patients lower left leg presented fractured so a splint was put in place to stabilize the tibia and fibia. The patient was then placed on a backboard after resecting him from the vehicle and he was transported with vitals and LOC being monitored.

6/26/10 EMS Rescue crews from CDS and Green Cross took part in a rescue of four people trapped in the Acelhuate river near the Blvd del Ejercito zone. The patients live in la Comunidad Las Victorias and according to witnesses, dedicate themselves to recycling iron in the area. 10 yo José Banegas, 6 yo Julio Henrriquez, 30 yo Oscar Osorio, and 23 yo María de La Paz Zabala are the named patients. Comandos and Cruz Verde worked together to see the rescue through. Civil Protection has announced a green alert due to the arrival of tropical storm Alex.

6/28/10  National Civilian Police Air Squad members rescued 2 people from a small island that was formed by the Las Cañas river. The river rose causing them to be trapped near the community of Las Cabañitas between Popotlán, Apopa and Ciudad Delgado. CDS could not get the names of those involved yet police state that neighbors in the area of las cabañitas report that they are residents in the zone.

Agatha Rainstorm: Flooding/Rescues

EMS crews from Comandos de Salvamento evacuated victims of Tropical Storm Agatha in Bajo Lempa today. The refugees where transferred to shelters run by National Civil Protection of El Salvador.

There were four washed out areas, the largest reported to be 10 meters in diameter located at La Comunidad Las Victorias, along El Bulevar del Ejercito Nacional.  There were reports of panic among those living in this area where they had built shacks in an old trash dump. Many friendly neighbors have taken in other neighbors who have lost belongings while they await transport to nearby shelters. Fotos: CDS

 Carelessness and alcohol was the reason this young patient of 19 years fell from a height of 20 meters while going home. The accident happened in colonia Mariona 1 in Mejicanos. Comandos Rescue and Recovery group “UDR”recovered the youth and transported via ambulance to the E.R. at Rosales Hospital.
